Charging costs roughly 5 cents per mile at home, compared to about 12 cents per mile for gas. Over 15,000 miles a year, that's about $581 for an EV versus $1,830 for a gas vehicle.

Maintenance drops too. No oil changes, spark plugs, fuel filters, or transmission service, and regenerative braking means less brake wear. Owners typically save $2,000 to $3,000 over five years. Public DC fast chargers can take a battery from 10% to 80% in about 20 to 45 minutes, which makes road trips more doable than most people expect.
